Vicente is a widower and a retired teacher who lives between lucid dreams and everyday life in the Alecrim neighbourhood. Maria is a middle-aged woman, who works as Vincent’s housekeeper. Christmas is approaching. When Luan, Maria’s son, is killed by the police, and Vicente wants to help her, he is also victimised because of prejudice. Their journey is far from being over.

Valério Fonseca (b. 1970, Natal, Brazil) and has studied Screenplay writing at EICTV, Cuba. He has since directed 15 shorts, including ‘Dona Eulália’, ‘Pegadas de Zila’, ‘Maria Ninguém’ and the feature documentary ‘Remare’ on rowing. ‘The Cage and the Dream’ is his first fiction feature. Valério is a member of Ponta Negra Filmes.
