Bappi Lahiri
(बप्पी लाहिड़ी)
Bappi Lahiri (1952 – 2022) also known as Bappi Da was an Indian singer-composer and record producer, known for his synthesised disco music in the Indian film industry. Popular in the 1980s and 1990s, he also delivered major box office successes in Bengali, Telugu, and Kannada films. He holds a Guinness World Record (1986) for recording more than 180 songs in a year for 33 films, and made another record by composing music for 12 silver jubilee movies between 1983–1985. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for Sharaabi (1984) and was conferred with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (2018).

Bhupinder Singh (भूपिंदर सिंह)
Bhupinder Singh (1940 – 2022) was an Indian musician, a ghazal and playback singer for Hindi films. He started his career with All India Radio and also worked with Doordarshan. He was given the opportunity to sing alongside Mohammed Rafi, Talat Mahmood and Manna Dey in Chetan Anand’s Haqeeqat (1964) and got a solo by Khayyam in the film Aakhri Khat (1966). Mid-1980s onwards, he began singing jointly with his wife Mitali at concerts and released many ghazal albums. Some of his famous songs are “Dil Dhoondta hai”, “Do diwane shahar mein”, “Naam gum jayega”, and “Ek akela is Shehar Mein”.

Synopsis:
Dr. Amarnath falls in love with Chanda, while visiting Darjeeling with a promise to return which he never keeps. KK alias Krishnakumar Kunnath (1968 – 2022) was an Indian playback singer, regarded as one of the best and most versatile singers with songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Bengali, Assamese and Gujarati. KK sang 3500 advertising jingles before making his film debut in 1996 with A. R. Rahman. His debut album, Pal (1999) became very popular and he sang many superhit songs during his career for films and television. He received the Screen Award for Best Playback Singer – Male twice, for the album Pal (1999) and for the song “Khuda Jaane” (2009), from Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008).

K. P. A. C. Lalitha (1947 – 2022) aka Maheshwari Amma, was an Indian film and stage actress primarily in Malayalam. She started her acting career with K. P. A. C., a theatre collective in Kayamkulam, Kerala. In a career spanning five decades, she starred in over 550 films. She won four Kerala State Film Awards and two National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress for the films Amaram (1991) and Shantham (2000). She was honoured with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award at the Filmfare Awards South (2009) and served as the chairperson of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi.

Lata Mangeshkar (लता मंगेशकर)
Lata Mangeshkar (1929 – 2022) is widely considered as one of the greatest Indian playback singers and was known as the ‘Queen of Melody’. Pt. Birju Maharaj (पंडित बिरजू महाराज)
Pt. Birju Maharaj (1938 – 2022) was an Indian dancer, composer, singer and exponent of the Lucknow ‘Kalka-Bindadin’ Gharana of Kathak dance in India. A descendant of the Maharaj family of Kathak dancers with his two uncles, Shambhu Maharaj and Lachhu Maharaj, and his father and guru, Acchan Maharaj, he choreographed and composed music for many Indian movies, practiced Hindustani classical music as a vocalist. Synopsis: The thief duo, Khalujaan and his nephew Babban steal a prized necklace. With the police after them, they split. Pandit Shivkumar Sharma (पंडित शिवकुमार शर्मा)
Pandit Shivkumar Sharma (1938 – 2022) was an Indian classical musician and Santoor player, credited with adapting the Santoor for Indian classical music. He started playing the Santoor at the age of thirteen and gave his first public performance in 1955. As a music composer, he collaborated with Indian flutist Hariprasad Chaurasia under the collaborative name Shiv–Hari and they composed music for many Indian films including Silsila (1981), Faasle (1985), Chandni (1989), Lamhe (1991) and Darr (1993). He is the recipient of national honours like the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1986), the Padma Shri (1991), and the Padma Bhushan (2001).

Pratap Pothen (प्रताप पोथेन)
Pratap Pothen (1952 – 2022) was an Indian actor and filmmaker across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema. He acted in about 100 films and directed 12 while also having worked as a scriptwriter and producer. His directorial debut Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai (1985), won him the National Film Award for Best Debut Film of a Director. He directed several successful Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films, working with veteran actors like Sivaji Ganesan, Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan, Thilakan and Nagarjuna. Ramesh Deo (1926 – 2022) was an Indian film and television actor. In his long career, he worked in more than 285 Hindi films, 190 Marathi films and 30 Marathi dramas. He also produced feature films, television serials and over 250 ad films, as well as directed a number of films, documentaries and television serials. His debut was a cameo appearance in Paatlaachi Por (1951), and his first full-fledged role was in Andhala Magto Ek Dola (1956). Ravi Tandon (1935 – 2022) was an Indian film director, producer and story writer. Born in a Punjabi family in Agra, he went on to direct a number of superhit movies with all the leading actors in the 1970s and 1980s. Synopsis: 10 billion rupees are stolen by the henchmen of gangster Vikram from a train. Sawan Kumar Tak (1936 –2022) was an Indian film director, producer, and lyricist. He began his career as producer for the film Naunihal (1967) starring Sanjeev Kumar which received the Presidential mention at the National Film Awards. His directorial debut was Gomti Ke Kinare (1972), which was Meena Kumari’s last film, released posthumously. He directed many successful Hindi films and is credited for giving breaks to actors like Sanjeev Kumar and Mehmood Junior. His famous film Souten (1983) was a platinum jubilee hit. A prolific lyricist, he wrote songs for most of his produced and directed films, and for other films.

Synopsis: Shyam, an ambitious middle-class man meets Rukmini, a millionaire’s daughter, and marries her despite opposition from her family. Shiv Kumar Subramaniam (1959 – 2022) was an Indian actor and screenwriter. Known for his role as the industrialist I.M. Virani in the Indian television series Mukti Bandhan (2011), he wrote the screenplay for films like Parinda (1989) and Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2005). As an actor, he appeared in supporting roles in many films like 1942: A Love Story (1994), Kaminey (2009), Teen Patti (2010), 2 States (2014) and Meenakshi Sundareshwar (2021). Synopsis: Anna rules the Mumbai underworld. Among his gang of loyal commandants is Kishen, who has shielded his younger brother Karan by sending him to college abroad. Krishnam Raju (1940 – 2022) was an Indian actor and politician. Popular in Telugu cinema, he was widely known as ‘Rebel Star’’ for his rebellious acting style, and starred in more than 183 films. He made his acting debut with the film Chilaka Gorinka (1966) produced and directed by K. Pratyagatma. He won five Filmfare Awards South, including the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (2006) and three state Nandi Awards, including the inaugural Nandi Award for Best Actor. Tarun Majumdar (1931 – 2022) was an Indian film director known for his work in Bengali cinema. He made his directorial debut, under the screen name Yatrik, with the Bengali film Chaowa Pawa (1959). Synopsis: Pinjara is the tragic love story of a respectable school teacher ‘Guruji’ and a travelling dancer.
